Clinical and translational research on cardiovascular health

Description: Study of patients with advanced heart failure – palliative care, multidisciplinary care, use of circulatory assistance and cardiac transplantation. Research of dietary factors involved in the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis; research on new nutritional therapies applied to special subgroups of patients: with severe hypercholesterolemias, coronary heart disease, malnourished cardiopathy, in the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. Studies of etiological agents of infective endocarditis, evaluation of diagnostic methods for endocarditis; therapeutic strategies in endocarditis: evaluation of surgical results, new antimicrobial therapies; study of endocarditis in special subgroups of patients. Clinical research of cardiovascular imaging methods: myocardial scintigraphy, coronary angiotomography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.

 

Innovation, development and management in cardiology

Description: Research with stem cells, molecular biology, cell culture in cardiology, microvascular vasoreactivity studies. Evaluation of the use of stem cells in acute coronary disease and chronic coronary disease, chagasic cardiopathy and dilated cardiomyopathies: effects on myocardial function and patient survival. Molecular biology in cardiology: a study of the genetics of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Genotyping of patients with hypotrophic cardiomyopathy and their relatives. Evaluation of channelopathies in patients with a history of sudden death and research on the genetics of channelopathies and long QT syndrome. Evaluation of endothelial progenitor cells (number and functionality) in coronary patients. Study of microvascular reactivity in different subgroups of patients with heart disease.
